Dr. Timothy Shedd, a pioneer in designing and cooling the world’s fastest, most demanding CPUs, has joined Motivair Corporation as its Director of Research and Development.
Shedd has more than 30 years of experience in thermal sciences and engineering in the IT industry and is a distinguished educator, researcher, and entrepreneur with 13 patents.
“It is a pleasure to join Motivair, an organization with a reputation for delivering high quality, reliable products and taking care of their customers from concept to decommissioning,” Shedd said. “I look forward to continuing the history of producing innovative products on the crest of the wave of technological advances as part of the talented and creative Motivair team. “
Shedd's focus will be leading new R&D and product development as Motivair continues to maintain its leadership position of innovation in mission critical cooling products.
“Tim’s deep knowledge of silicon design and architecture as well as his passion for direct liquid cooling will help us continue to foster and deliver innovative products and services for our global client base,” CEO Rich Whitmore said.
Shed has spent his career connected with the IT industry designing and cooling the world’s fastest, most demanding CPUs and researching the most efficient ways to manage energy consumption in data centers.
Beginning as a VLSI design engineer for Digital Equipment Corporation, he transitioned to research and teaching, attaining tenure and promotion as an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He has also held roles as an Associate Professor, Supervisor of Entrepreneurship Programs and Director of the Division of Graduate Studies at Florida Polytechnic University.
In 2013 he launched Ebullient, Inc. to commercialize 11 years of laboratory research into what was at the time one of the world’s highest performing, scalable, affordable, liquid cooling systems for data centers.
Shedd has a BS in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University and an MS and PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
He was recently named a fellow of ASHRAE, is a member of the SEMITHERM organizing committee and sits on the Investment Committee for the SEED Fund of Florida Funders, the largest venture capital investor in Florida.
